MILESTONES
- In 2006, The Iraq-Afghanistan Deployment Impact Fund (IADIF) of the California Foundation was established to address the needs of men, women and families affected by deployment in Iraq and Afghanistan.
- In October 2006, at the request of the IADIF of the California Community Foundation, TIRR Foundation assembled a group of TBI specialists to explore the development of a brain injury rehabilitation program for injured military service members. Among this group were physicians, researchers and administrators from TIRR Memorial Hermann, the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, and the Michael E. DeBakey Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Houston, Texas.
- May 2007, TIRR Foundation received notification that the newly developed program had received approval for a $3 million grant.
- October 2007, Project Victory admitted its first veteran and soon after a group of active duty soldiers from Ft. Polk, LA were admitted to the program.
- April 2009, Project Victory is featured in a short documentary titled “Fractured Minds” from the In Their Boots series by Brave New Foundation.
- November 2010 the residential facility, Transitional Learning Center in Galveston, TX, is added to the continuum of services provided as part of the Project Victory program.
