The Transitional Learning Center joins Project Victory

Project Victory is excited to announce that we’re teaming up with the Transitional Learning Center (TLC) in Galveston, Texas to provide additional expertise and oversight to program participants. Established in 1982, TLC is a pioneer in the field of brain injury rehabilitation providing adults of brain injury comprehensive, rehabilitation services. This new partnership provides the Project Victory program the opportunity to evaluate incoming participants in a 24 hour 7 day a week supportive environment to address rehabilitation needs. The services of Project Victory are provided at no cost to the service member through a grant given to TIRR Foundation by the Iraq Afghanistan Deployment Impact Fund of the California Community Foundation.

All Project Victory participants will begin their evaluations at the Galveston location. Evaluations, assessments and treatment planning will occur within the first week of treatment. During this time, the Project Victory Galveston and Houston team will discuss goals and decide on the best course of treatment.

Dr. Brent Masel, neurologist and Medical Director of TLC, will perform the initial medical evaluation and necessary medical care will be addressed in Galveston. Low vision appointments will continue to take place at the University of Houston Eye Clinic. TLC Case Managers will discuss treatment plans and medical recommendations with the referring Veteran’s Administration or medical treatment facility contact.

Participants will receive room and board at the TLC residential campus and room only at the TIRR Memorial Hermann outpatient facility in Houston. Assistance with food, incidentals and expenses can be sought through the USA Cares.

Family members are invited to both Galveston and Houston with the program participant. Staff will arrange for lodging at a hotel nearby the TLC campus in Galveston while family and program participant will continue to stay together at the Marriot Residence Inn while in Houston. Participants will be transferred from the residential facility in Galveston to the Houston outpatient facility when outpatient treatment is deemed appropriate.

We strongly believe this new partnership allows Project Victory to accept more candidates into the program as well as provide a greater scope of services. If you have any questions about the changes, please do not hesitate to call us.
